Randy California

Randy California, actually Randolph Craig Wolfe, ( born February 20, 1951 in Los Angeles, California, † January 2, 1997 in Molokai, Hawaii ) was an American musician.

With 15 years of rock guitarist played one summer in New York with Jimi Hendrix in his band Jimi James & The Blue Flames. Hendrix was also the California called him, to distinguish him from the other Randy in the band.

With his stepfather Ed Cassidy California founded then in Los Angeles, the band Spirit with which he produced four albums until 1970. California wrote most of the songs and was also lead singer of the band. He wrote the Spirit hit " I Got A Line On You" (1969). One of the greatest success in the Spirit 2 Rocknacht Rockpalast.

1973 California published his best-known solo album " Kaptain Kopter and the Fabulous Twirly Birds". In the aftermath shots alternated with Spirit and solo albums.

Randy California drowned on 2 January 1997 while swimming in the sea off Molokai, Hawaii. He came with his 12 year old son Quinn in a flow that made him - after he had pushed his son to safety - hinauszog open sea. His body was never found.
