Randy Lewis (wrestler)

Randy Lewis ( born June 7, 1959 in Milbank, South Carolina ) is a former American professional wrestler. He was Olympic champion in 1984 in Los Angeles in free style at featherweight.

Career

Randy Lewis grew up in Rapid City, South Dakota, where she started at the age of 10 years at the local high school with the rings. He was a highly successful high school wrestler who won all 89 fights that he played there. In addition, he was three times champion of South Dakota at the high school wrestlers. He then attended the University of Iowa, where he received valuable Trainingstips of the local famous head coach, the Olympic champion in 1972 in Munich, Dan Gable and developed into an outstanding freestyle wrestler.

Randy Lewis was at the NCAA Division I Collegiate Championships ( = U.S. students Championship) in the years 1978 to 1980 with great success. In 1978, he took 2nd Place and in the years 1979 and 1980 he was the NCAA champion bantamweight or featherweight ( US-amerik. students master ). In 1981 it reached only a 7th place at featherweight.

Randy Lewis also belonged to the Hawkeye Wrestling Club Iowa City. For this club, he finished in the AAU Championships ( = USA championship) in 1980 and 1982 respectively to the 2nd place in the featherweight.

The international career of wrestler Randy Lewis began in 1977 with a victory at the World Youth Championship ( Juniors = up to age 18 ) in Las Vegas bantamweight before the Iranians Hosseini and four strong Eastern Bloc wrestlers. In the senior he started in 1982 at the World Championships in Edmonton at featherweight. He arrived there after a defeat in the pool - final against Sergei Beloglasow from the Soviet Union to fight for the bronze medal against Hungary Jozsef Orban, however, against whom he defeated on points and thus placing 4th.

1983 Randy Lewis won the title at the Pan American Games in Caracas featherweight from the strong Cuban Bueno Ramirez. During the Qualifying for the World Cup, he was defeated by Lee Roy Smith. Against this Lee Roy Smith but he then won the following year the excretion for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In Los Angeles he won in a row using Dungar, Britain, Brown, Australia, Singh, India, La Bruna, Italy and Akaishi, Japan and won superior to the gold medal. Only the Inder Singh succeeded in doing to come against him over time.

In the following years he was not quite so successful. But in 1988 he reached again the decisive battle in the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Seoul. There he had against the outstanding new U.S. Freestyle Star John Smith, the brother of Lee Roy Smith, no chance. John Smith was also Olympic champion in Seoul.

In 1990, Randy Smith rounded out his career with a second win from at Pan American Games. In Colorado Springs, he won ahead of Cubans Jesus E. Rodriguez Garzon.

Randy Lewis is now president and owner of a company for display and billboards in Mesa (Arizona ), where he also lives. As a youth coach, he is the young wrestlers on his vast experience.
