Rang (Doubs)

Rank is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Rank is at 292 m, 3 km southwest of L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs and about 20 km west-southwest of the city of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located on the eastern edge of the valley of the Doubs at the entrance in a short valley, on the northern edge of the outermost ridges of the Jura.

The area of ​​10:32 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. The northern boundary runs along the Doubs, which here flows with large loops in a about one kilometer wide flat Talniederung and is accompanied by the waterways of the Rhine- Rhone Canal. On the west side of the Doubs of the steep slope of the Bois le Chanois belongs (up to 360 m) to rank. From the river, the municipality's area extends to the south and southeast on the flood plain up to the adjacent plateaus ( 350-390 m), which are divided by the little valley of rank. The plateau is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. In the east, the border runs along the forest area of ​​Le Chénardiot. With a narrow strip of communal land extends south into the Bois de Charme and up to the eastern foothills of the Côte d' Armont, on the 524 meters, the highest elevation is achieved by ranking.

Neighboring communities of rank are Mancenans and Appenans in the north, L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs in the east, Anteuil in the south and Saint -Georges- Armont and Pompierre -sur -Doubs in the West.

History

During Roman times, the traffic route of Vesontio (Besançon) led to the Upper Rhine through the territory of rank. In the Middle Ages rank belonged to the rule of L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs. The first church was probably built in the late 13th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today rank is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes des Isles du Doubs.

Attractions

The present church of Saint-Léger was built in 1739 in classic style.

Population

With 424 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) rank among the small communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​330-390 people, a significant population growth was recorded especially during the 1970s. After peaking in the early 80s began a downward trend that continues today.

Economy and infrastructure

Rank was well into the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. On the outskirts, a commercial and industrial zone in which have established themselves among other enterprises in the automotive and manufacturing of ratchet straps and chains arose. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road N83, which runs from Besançon to Montbéliard. The nearest links to the A36 motorway, which runs through the municipality, is located at a distance of about 4 km. Another road connection with Saint -Georges- Armont. Rank has a station on the railway line Dole - Besançon - Belfort, which is, however, no longer served.
