Rankin County, Mississippi
The Rankin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Brandon, which was by Gerard Brandon, a governor named.
The Rankin County is part of the metropolitan area to the Mississippi capital Jackson.
Geography
The County is located just north-west of the geographic center of Mississippi and has an area of 2088 square kilometers, of which 82 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:
History
The Rankin County was formed on February 4, 1828 from parts of Hinds County. It was named after Christopher Rankin (1788-1826), a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Rankin County 115 327 people in 42 089 households, and 31,145 families. The population density was 57 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 81.03 percent White, 17.12 percent Black or African American, 0.16 percent Native American, 0.66 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.41 percent from other races groups; 0.60 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.32 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 42 089 households out of which 36.7 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.1 percent were married couples living together, 12.2 percent were single mothers and 26.0 percent were non-families. 21.9 percent of all households were single-person households and 6.2 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size is 3.07 people.
25.9 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 9.1 percent between 18 to 24, 32.4 percent between 25 and 44, 23.0 percent between 45 and 64 years old and 9.5 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 95.6 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.5 males.
The average income of a household was $ 44,946, for a family is $ 51,707. Males had a median income of $ 36,097, women $ 26,096. The per capita income was $ 20,412. Around 7.3 percent of families and 9.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
