Rankine Lecture

The Rankine Lecture is an honor for services in geotechnics the British Geotechnical Association and applicable in this area as one of the highest honors. They are held since 1961 and published in the journal Géotechnique. In even-numbered years the honored from the UK comes in odd from abroad. By 1972, they were held in the headquarters of the Institution of Civil Engineers, then at Imperial College. They are named after the pioneer of Soil Mechanics John William Rankine Macquorn.
