Raoul Pleskow

Raoul Pleskow (born 12 October 1931 in Vienna) is an American composer and music educator of Austrian origin.

Pleskow fled with his family after the "Anschluss of Austria" on Switzerland and France to New York. In 1945 he became an American citizen. He attended from 1950 to 1952, the Juilliard School of Music and studied until 1956 at Queens College at Karol Rathaus and to 1858 at Columbia University with Otto Luening composition.

Then he began to teach at led by Stefan Wolpe CW Post College of Long Iceland University. He followed Wolpe as the director of the music department, and was from 1970 until his retirement Professor of Music. After that, he remained connected to the College 's Composer in Residence.

PLeskows works were, inter alia, Cleveland Orchestra, performed by the Tanglewood Festival Orchestra, from the Plainfield Symphony, the Orchestra da Camera, the South Dakota Symphony, Pierrot Consort, the Stony Brook Contemporary Chamber Players and the Queens Symphony Orchestra. For his compositions, he has been with prices of the Ford Foundation (1972). the Martha Baird Rockefeller Fund for Music ( 1972), the National Endowment for the Arts ( 1974, 1975, 1978) of the National Institute of Arts and Letters (1974) and the Guggenheim Foundation (1977 ) excellent.
