Raphael Wicky ( born April 26, 1977 in Leuggern, Raphaël Wicky also French spelling ) is a former Swiss football player. The defensive midfielder was also used in defense and in the left midfield.

At the age of 16 years Wicky was in the jersey of Valais tradition club FC Sion his debut in the Swiss National League A. A year later he received his first invitation to the national team.

In 1997, he signed a contract with the German club Werder Bremen. There he stood until the end of 2000 under contract before he moved to Atlético Madrid in the Spanish Segunda División. In December 2001, returned to the German Bundesliga and played for Hamburger SV. In the summer of 2007 he moved to his hometown club FC Sion. In January 2008 he moved to CD Chivas USA in the United States.

With FC Sion Wicky won the 1997 Swiss championship and was three times cup winners. In addition, he was in 1999 with the SV Werder Bremen DFB Cup winners.

A great success in his career was also qualifying for the 2006 World Cup. Though he had very few matches in the qualifying contest ( reasons were injuries and yellow-card suspensions ) against the Faroe he managed his first goal in the Swiss jersey.

Beginning of 2009, retired from professional football.

Today, Raphael Wicky can be seen, among other things regularly on Swiss television. Along with Gilbert Gress he is the expert team for football broadcasts of the UEFA Champions League, World Championships and European Championships.
