Raphi Kanchanaraphi

Raphi Kanchanaraphi ( Thai: ระ พี กาญจน ระ พี; born November 6, 1936 in Bangkok, † February 19, 2010 ) was a Thai badminton player who competed for Canada later.

Sporting career

In his home country he won for the first time in 1956 in the Mixed with Bunrat Kanchanaraphi. In 1959 he won the men's doubles with Narong Bhornchima and mixed with Heather Ward in the ongoing open Thai Championships. In 1962 he was again in double success, this time with Chavalert Chumkum at his side. In 1966, he won again with Narong Bhornchima after he had won the Mixed standings with Sumol Chan Klum year earlier.

In Thomas Cup 1961, he lost with the Thai team the final against Indonesia and became Vice World Champion team. In the Southeast Asia Games 1961 he won gold in mixed doubles with Pankae Phongarn and silver in doubles with Narong Bhornchima.

In Canada, it won the 1973 Mixed and in the three years that followed, with double rating Channarong Ratanaseangsuang 1979 and once again the double Dominic Soong.

Raphi Kanchanaraphi died during the Thomas Cup Trials on February 19, 2010 in Bangkok.
