Rara Lake

The Rarasee, ( Nepali राराताल raratal ) in western Nepal is the largest lake in the country. At an altitude of 2900 m, it comprises approximately 8 square kilometers with a shoreline of 9 km and a maximum depth of 167 m.

The lake in Mugu district of Karnali region has a slightly oval shape and is located entirely in the Lake Rara National Park about 300 km north- west of the state capital, Kathmandu. The oligotrophic waters has more than 30 tributaries, the only outflow is the Khater Khola on the west side.

Except for a Lodge area of ​​the National Park Service on the northwest shore (29 ° 32 'N, 82 ° 5' O29.5388782.078621388889 ) there are no settlements, roads are missing.
