Ras Dashen

The Ras Daschän ( Amharic ራስ ዳሸን Dašän Ras, Ras Dashan English, Ras Dejen ) is with 4533 m the highest mountain in the highlands of Abyssinia and in the East African Ethiopia.
In the highlands of Abyssinia, Ras Daschän is located approximately 160 km north-east of Lake Tana in the central eastern part of the Sämen National Park ( Simien National Park ). Neighboring mountain to the west across the 1,700 m deep valley of the Mesheha Wenz is the Bwahit ( 4430 m) and north of the Kidis Yared ( 4453 m). The mountain consists of basalt rock. His seven rocky elevations that represent the summit area, and are in the east and south surrounded by high levels on which sheep graze up to about 4300 m altitude, and fall steeply to the west and north. At the top can hold (usually July to September ) small patches of snow on shady places especially after heavy rainfall. To the east, the mountain range of Ras Daschän drops to around 36 km away Tekeze and lying at about 1000 meters height Tekeze reservoir.
The first ascent by Europeans was held by the French Ferret and Galinier 1841. Because the peak is, however, easy to reach, he was even before visited by local shepherds.
