Ras el-Hanout

Ras el Hanout - (Arabic رأس الحانوت, DMG Ra ʾ s al - Hanut, literally head of the shop ' ) is an original Moroccan spice blend that combines many different ingredients. Ras el Hanout - can be understood as " the head of the shop " because the complicated mix is only established by the Chief of the spice shop in person. There are, depending on the manufacturing about 25 different spices in the spice mixture. So there are sweet, sharp and bitter flavors, some of which are very difficult to obtain in German-speaking, others are not necessarily recommended, such as Spanish fly ( a dried and ground beetles, also known as an aphrodisiac ).

Common ingredients include: nutmeg, dried rosebuds, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, anise, turmeric, licorice (actually Irises ) root, chili peppers, lavender, white pepper, dried ginger root, clove, allspice berries, cardamom pods and galangal root.

Ras el Hanout is - suited for couscous, meat dishes, and much of the Moroccan kitchen.
