RaÅŸit Meredow

Raşit Öwezgeldyýewiç Meredov (Russian Рашид Овезгельдыевич Мередов, Rashid Meredov Owesgeldyjewitsch; * 1960 in Ashgabat ) is a Turkmen politician. He dressed in the Cabinet of the Turkmen government the post of foreign minister.

Meredov was born in 1960 in Ashgabat, which was then still part of the Soviet Union. He holds a law degree from the Moscow State University and then taught at the Turkmen State University in Ashgabat civil law. In 1990 he moved into politics and worked in the Ministry of Justice of the Turkmen SSR, the short time as Turkmenistan became independent later. He became head of the legal department of the presidential administration under Turkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov in 1993. In May 1999 he was appointed the first Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and in May 2001 he was elected chairman of the Turkmen Parliament. Since July 2001, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Meredov and since February 2007, Vice - Prime Minister. He has held this office from 2003 to 2005.
