Rasmus Torgensen

Rasmus Aage Ejnar Torgensen ( born April 17, 1900 in Aarhus, † May 28, 1932 ) was a Danish wrestler. He was Vice-European Champion 1929 in Greco-Roman style in featherweight.

Career

Aage Torgensen was a Danish athlete who began the struggle with the athletes club (AK ) Aarhus. Later he moved to " Dan " Copenhagen. Torgensen developed in the 1920s to one of Europe's best wrestlers in Greco- Roman style. In 1920 he was employed at the Olympic Games in Antwerp at featherweight. He showed there excellent fights, scoring four wins and missed the 4th place only very slightly the bronze medal.

His next start at an international championship was in the 1922 World Cup in Stockholm. Here he wrestled and defeated bantamweight after two wins against Eduard Pütsep from Estonia and Fritjof Svensson from Sweden and came to 5th place.

Also get at the Olympic Games in Paris in 1924 Torgensen featherweight again two victories. Among the wrestlers defeated by him was also present Osvald Käpp, the strong Este. However, the two Finns Aleksanteri Toivola and Kalle Anttila were too strong for him. After defeats against these two wrestlers Aage retired after the 5th round and reached the 8th place.

The greatest success of his career, scored Torgensen then at the European Championship 1929 in Dortmund. After four victories, he only lost in the final of the Swedish Folke Hernström and won the silver medal.

1926 ranking Aage Torgensen in Copenhagen in an international match against Germany against Ernst Rocky ASV Heros Dortmund and had to suffer a shoulder against this defeat.

Aage, who was five times Danish featherweight champion, died in 1932 quite surprising of blood poisoning.
