Rastdorf

Rastdorf is a municipality and a member municipality of the velvet municipality Werlte in the northeast of the district Emsland in western Lower Saxony ( Germany ).

The municipality, which covers approximately 26.33 km ², has 1000 inhabitants.

Geography

Location

Rastdorf located in the northeastern part of the Geest of Hümmling in Emsland. The nearest town, about 16 km to the north is Friesoythe, 24 km to the west of Cloppenburg, 28 km north-west of Papenburg, 31 km south Haselünne and 37 km south-west the county seat Meppen. The highest elevation at Council village is the Queckenberg with 35 m. NN.

Townscape

Because of its history, the place is very different in its settlement structure from the other villages in the area. During the Hümmling is otherwise dominated by pile villages with recognizable local edges, Rastdorf has the character of a village street with long, straight access roads, as this otherwise rather in the Emsland region west of the Ems and occur in Ostfriesland, but without the typical channels there.

History

The church dates back to the founded in 1833, initially consisting of three houses " colony Rastdorf ".

At the beginning of the 1940s, the Krupp shooting Meppen was extended, it was therefore necessary to abandon some settlement sites. Their inhabitants were forcibly relocated. Among other things, the entire village delusion was razed to the ground. Many of the displaced from delusions were settled in Rastdorf. There are other places that did not have to completely give way to the shooting range, residents were displaced and settled in Rastdorf. This came from Emmeln, Tindoor, Sprakel and Apel mandrel.

In 1941, the resettlement was largely completed. This year is generally considered to be Year of the village Rastdorf. On November 1, 1943 Rastdorf received a private location by a law and was an independent municipality. Coat of arms

The coat of arms of the municipality Rastdorf describes the origin of the settlers who have come together to form a new community; However, it also highlights the courage and the will to succeed in the new home.

The eight ears of corn, tied together to a sheaf, refer to the eight municipalities that make up the first settlers came to Rastdorf. Just as the spikes were bound for cooking, these settlers form a new church. The ears are the same but for success in the new home. The stone monument at the bottom of the coat of arms is modeled after the snap Local History stone, which has been erected in memory of the colony Rastdorf and the formation of the new community. The colors red and gold express solidarity with the other four member communities of the velvet municipality Werlte, on whose coat of arms, these colors are also available.
