Ratanpur

Ratanpur is a town in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh with 19,838 inhabitants ( 2001).

History

Ratanpur was until 1818 the capital of the former kingdom of Chhattisgarh. In the Middle Ages there were several gemstone cutters, the (mainly from the chalcedony and Jaspisminen ) edited the stones found here and delivered pearls. Now the city lives mainly from cultivation of agricultural products, such as the cultivation of mangoes.

Attractions

The main attraction of the town is an old Royal Palace. Other attractions include a fort, as well as several Hindu temples, including the Mahamaya Temple, the Mahadev Bhudha and Ramtekritempel.
