Ratnapura District

Ratnapura is a district in the province of Sabaragamuwa in Sri Lanka. It has an area of 3'275 km ². Capital is Ratnapura.

The population in 2001 was 1'015'807 persons according to the census.

Management

The head of the district is entitled District Secretary. The district is further divided into seventeen divisions ( under a Division Secretary ). The cities and larger towns have their own government ( municipal council or municipal council ). There are 575 community councils ( Grama Niladharis ) for 1'941 villages throughout the district.
