Raúl Cubas Grau

Raúl Alberto Cubas Grau ( born August 23, 1943 in Asunción ) is an electrical engineer and politician. He was Finance Minister from 1993 to 1996 and from 15 August 1998 to 28 March 1999 President of Paraguay.

Cubas Grau is a member of the Paraguayan Colorado Party, which established him as a presidential candidate. One of his first acts after his appointment was for the release of jailed by his predecessor Juan Carlos Wasmosy General Lino Oviedo from prison. After the assassination of Vice President Luis María Argaña broke in March of 1999, unrest in the country. The so-called Marzo Paraguayo began, had to resign at the end of Cubas Grau his office. On the evening of March 28th, 1999, he fled to neighboring Brazil to escape an indictment against him. He was suspected of being involved in the assassination Argañas. In 2002 he returned to Paraguay.

On 21 September 2004 his daughter Cecilia was kidnapped and found dead on 16 February 2005.
