Rave

Rave, from the English for " raging, raving, raging, fantasize ," is a during the acid house movement from the Second Summer of Love in 1989 arising term for dance parties with electronic music. At these parties, the conceptual emphasis was first placed on ecstatic dance. In their focus is primarily the DJs. A similar concept had already been available in the form of nightclubs, new, however, was that those in the form of "one -off events " (single events) were carried out in specially prepared locations, such as concert halls, warehouses, abandoned buildings and the like.

History

In the late 1980s, the electronic sound was at first hardly divided into styles or categories. There was therefore mostly a large dance floor and the two or a few DJs played within a party by various facets of electronic music. With the commercial success and the growth in visitor numbers, this concept was modified in favor of a better marketing in the collection of as many well-known producers and DJs. The playing time of the DJ was limited to less than an hour. This concept has had great success and was implemented more frequently on larger and larger events. The result was an enormously high pressure to succeed for the DJs. These had in such a short time " work," which logically had enormous impact on the music selection. The hits were repeated many times every hour. Thus, the music changed. It developed a particularly appropriate for this music.

The diversification of Techno in different styles with sometimes extremely different speeds led the mid / late 1990s, a new form of raves with many different floors. As the motto is PLUR rave culture developed.

Rave as a term for a genre of music

In general, all types of electronic music played at raves. From 1990 to 1992, was briefly also Madchester, a British indie rock-dance -junction, as Rave Music called.

From 1993 to 1996 Rave Music called then a particularly fast techno style. The rate was similar to the Gabber. The often distorted, hard bass drum was backed up frequently fast breakbeat samples in Rave. Because of the catchy, trance-like melodies and synth riffs, this music in the scene has also been called idiots or fair Techno (eg Marusha - Rave country, Dune - I Can not Stop Raving ). A the breakbeats even more emphasizing lower mold breakbeat hardcore. The meaning of the word Rave has changed over the years and today still mainly referred to the event. Rave as a particular style of music does not exist. If Rave music is mentioned, it refers mostly to old records and classics from the early days of techno. Generally one can say that what typical rave music has identified, there is a certain experimentation and abstraction, with great consideration of danceability.

Organization

Larger raves are distributed with a few exceptions on several halls and premises, which are referred to in the jargon of the partygoers as floors. In each hall a slightly different style of music is played. In particular, the role played in the chill- out rooms is very avant-garde music in general. An important role for the success of raves plays next to the line-up, the DJ line-up, the PA used and the equipment with light and decoration. Since Raves start relatively late (rarely before midnight ), is then regularly celebrated until the early morning.
