Raviscanina

Raviscanina is a municipality in the province of Caserta in the Campania region with 1388 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is part of the Comunità Montana del Matese.

The neighboring municipalities are Ailano, Pietravairano, Prata Sannita, Sant'Angelo d' Alife, Vairano Patenora and Valle Agricola.

Geography

Raviscanina located in the north of the Campania region at the foot of Mount Matese, about 25 km from the border with the neighboring region of Molise. Around 58 km south lies the provincial capital of Caserta. Naples is located approximately 85 km south. 183 km north- west is the capital of Italy, Rome.

Etymology

The origin of the name is uncertain. He could of Rubus caninus ( Italian: blackberry of dogs: rovo di cani, dt ) be derived. It has been mentioned in the past Rupecanina, indicating a Norman village.
