Ray Aghayan

Gorgen Ray Aghayan ( born July 28, 1928 in Tehran, † October 10, 2011 in Los Angeles ) was a costume designer of Iranian origin. For his designs, he was nominated three times for an Academy Award.

Life

Aghayan came in 1928 in Tehran, the son of wealthy parents to the world. His mother was a fashion designer, so it already came from a child with the theme of fashion in contact. Aghayan took an early interest for American films. His family allowed to study in America and so he first studied architecture in Los Angeles, but this study broke off after a few weeks and turned to acting studies to. He directed and starred in plays and came by chance to the costume design. In one of his directorial work was no money for a needed Costume available and so designed Aghayan own costumes From 1957 the Iranians worked for various television shows, such as in 1958 for An Evening with Fred Astaire or The Judy Garland Show in 1963. In 1967 the television Emmy Award was awarded for the best costume design for the first time, received Aghayan and his partner, Bob Mackie, with whom he collaborated for decades, the price of the television movie Alice through the Looking Glass. For the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles Aghayan designed the costumes for the opening and the closing ceremonies. Between 1960 and 2001 Aghayan also advised the presenters of the annual Academy Awards in clothing issues.
