Ray Drummond

Ray " Bulldog" Drummond ( born November 23, 1946 in Brookline, Massachusetts) is an American jazz bassist.

Life and work

Ray Drummond played as a teenager Bass, initially decided not to for a musical career, but studied from 1974 economics at Stanford University, which he completed in 1977 with the MBA and played at the Stanford Jazz Workshop. But then he went back to bass, was a professional musician since the 1980s and a sought-after sideman on countless panel sessions. So he contributed to recordings of the Art Farmer / Benny Golson Jazztet, also with Stan Getz, Johnny Griffin, Tom Harrell, Dusko Goykovich, Hank Jones, Lee Konitz, Wynton and Branford Marsalis, David Murray, Sonny Clark Memorial Volume, Pharoah Sanders and James Spaulding. He has also appeared on recordings by Renee Rosnes and the ( unrelated ) Billy Drummond under the title The Drummonds and released a number of albums under his own name and with other musicians such as Kenny Barron, Craig Handy, John Hicks, Branford Marsalis and Joe Lovano.
