Ray (Film)

Ray is an American drama directed by Taylor Hackford from the year 2004. The film is a biography of the soul legend Ray Charles ( 1930-2004 ), who is played by Jamie Foxx.

Action

The film shows the childhood of Ray Charles Robinson, his blindness and the beginning of his musical career in 1947. He deals with his rise, his unique career, his marriage, the children, the lover, and with his heroin addiction. The film ends shortly after his rehab in the late 1970s.

Formation

The beginning of the film was preceded by years of planning and a very long preparation phase. The making of the film was accompanied by Ray Charles in person. Large parts of the film are therefore created according to the ideas of the artist himself. Shortly before the end of filming in June 2004 Ray Charles died. So he could not live to see the finished film.
