Ray Gillen

Ray Gillen ( born May 12, 1959 in Cliffside Park, New Jersey, New York City; † December 1, 1993, New Jersey) was an American hard rock singer.

His main musical influences were rock bands of the 1970s, such as Bad Company, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple.

In the rock music scene Gillen occurred mainly in the late eighties in appearance after Tony Iommi saw him as a worthy successor of the singer Glenn Hughes and the indian -born Americans made ​​the offer to solid at Black Sabbath. After a Tournée Iommi recorded the album The Eternal Idol first with Gillen as a singer, but was shortly afterwards to sing on the new vocals by Tony Martin. The demo recordings with Gillen on vocals microphone found initially only as bootlegs distribution, but were released in 2010 on a deluxe edition of the album.

Later he founded with former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Jake E. Lee, the band Badlands, with whom he recorded three albums. He was also one of the chosen musicians for the All - Star project Phenomena II (title: Dream Runner ).

Gillen was a guest musician for bands like Savatage, The Cult and George Lynch.

Ray Gillen died in December 1993 in circumstances that accompanied his HIV disease and was in Bergen County, New Jersey, buried.

In 1994, the ex- Deep Purple and Black Sabbath - musician Glenn Hughes organized a tribute concert to commemorate the talented rock singer. At this concert, among others, Sebastian Bach and Paul Pescoe, the guitarist worked with the American singer Mariah Carey.

In 1995 the debut album Sun Red Sun appeared the same band in which Gillen cooperated. His voice can be heard on four tracks of the album.
