Ray Whitney (ice hockey)

Ray Whitney ( born May 8, 1972 in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who plays for the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League for the position of left winger since July 2012.

Career

Whitney played during his junior career in 1988 with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League, one of the major junior leagues in North America. In the 1990/91 season the right shooter was there elected to the All-Star team in the league and voted best player of the year.

For the 1991/92 season he moved to the Cologne Sharks. But this he left after a few games and signed a contract with the newly formed San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, of which he had recently been selected to a total of 23 point NHL Entry Draft in 1991. Until 1997, he played for the Californians or their farm team, before joining the Edmonton Oilers. Shortly after the start of the season 1997/98 he moved on to the Florida Panthers and 2000 on the Columbus Blue Jackets, for whom he had three more years of active and has since served as team captain.

The 2003/ 04 spent Whitney at the Detroit Red Wings, a year later, he did not play due to the lockout. 2005/ 06 he joined the Carolina Hurricanes for two years. The greatest success of his career celebrated Whitney in the 2005/06 season in which he won the Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes. 2000 and 2003, he was appointed to the NHL All-Star Game. On 1 July 2010 he signed a temporary two -year contract with the Phoenix Coyotes.

On March 31, 2012 in the regular season, he scored his 1226th NHL game a goal and an assist against the Anaheim Ducks, reaching as 79th player in the history of the league the mark of 1000 points.

After the season 2011/12 Whitney was a free agent and signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Stars.
