Raymond Baxter

Raymond Baxter, OBE, FRSA ( born January 25, 1922 in Ilford, † September 15, 2006 in Reading, Berkshire ) was a British television presenter and author, who was the first presenter of Tomorrow 's World ( 1965-77 ) became famous.

After high school, which he completed at the Ilford County High School, completed his military service in World War II in the Royal Air Force.

From 1945 to 1949 worked for Baxter Forces Broadcasting. In 1950 he joined the BBC, where he was on the radio the funeral of Sir Winston Churchill and King George VI. commented. He also reported on the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953.

Baxter, former rally driver, also commented motorsport events, of which about 20 Formula 1 races, the 24 - hour race at Le Mans and the Monte Carlo Rally. Briefly, from 1967 to 1968, he was director of Motoring publicity, the British Motor Corporation. During this time he worked less for the BBC, took his full-time work, however, later on.

He also presented aviation issues for the BBC, among others, the first Concorde flight.

Baxter died on 15 September 2006.
