Raymond F. Jones

Raymond Fisher Jones (* November 15, 1915 in Salt Lake City, † January 24, 1994 in Sandy, Utah ) was an American science fiction author. He also published under the pseudonyms David Anderson and Alf Tjörnsen ( Verlagspseudonym ).

Life

Jones developed as a teenager a preference for SF. After a meteorological training, which eventually applied also in some of his works, he decided to write SF.

In 1941 he published his first work, the narrative test of the Gods, in the September issue of Astounding Science Fiction. In this magazine he published also a good part of his work. After another short stories in the two following years he published his first novel in 1944. In four episodes Astounding Science Fiction Renaissance brought (also: Man Of Two Worlds ), a parallel world novel out.

But he is best known for his 1952 novel, This Earth Iceland. This work was filmed in 1955 by Joseph Newman ( in Germany he was entitled Island Earth IV does not respond). The novel consists of the combined and edited story The Alien Machine, The Shroud Of Secrecy and The Greater Conflict. These stories of the Peace Engineers series have been 1949/50, published in Thrilling Wonder Stories. The German edition of This Earth Iceland was adapted to film by the translator Walter Ernsting, who was indeed turned to the book, but particularly strongly deviates towards the end of the template.

Beginning of the 1960s, his publications were rare and he created again until the early 1970s SF. This phase, however, is characterized by rather undemanding entertainment texts. With his classics he has but quite acquired merits and helped shape the history of SF.
