Raymond J. Saulnier

Raymond Joseph Saulnier ( born September 20, 1908 in Hamilton, Massachusetts, † April 30, 2009 in Chestertown, Maryland) was an American economist and university professor, among other things, 1956-1961 Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers was and as Centennial died.

Life

After schooling Saulnier first studied at Middlebury College and earned a Bachelor of Science there in 1929, before he graduated in 1931 subsequent studies at Tufts College with a Master of Arts ( MA). Then he took over from 1934 to 1938 Professor of Economics at Columbia University in New York City where she earned a 1939 Philosophiae Doctor ( Ph.D. Economics) with a thesis on Contemporary Monetary Theory ( 1938).

He was then in 1938 a professor at Barnard College in Manhattan, where he taught until 1973, and was at times also a Trustee of Middlebury College.

In addition to his teaching activities, he was initially 1938 to 1946 Research scientist at the National Bureau of Economic Research ( NBER ) and subsequent to 1954, the research director. He was also a 1950-1952 Adviser to the Federal Reserve system and the 1951-1952 president of the American Finance Association, a company founded in 1939 scientific organization dedicated to research and the dissemination of knowledge to the financial industry.

After he was from 1952 to 1953 Advisor to the Council of Economic Advisers, in 1955 he became its member. Then he was 1956-1961 Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, and thus one of the closest economic advisor to U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower. At the same time, he was from 1959 to 1961 director of the then state-owned mortgage bank, the Federal National Mortgage Association.

Later, he, alongside his work as a professor from 1965 to 1975 governor of the American Stock Exchange (AMEX ), and at the same time 1969-1977 Advisor to the U.S. Treasury. In addition, he was later between 1976 and 1979 a member of the Consumer Advisory Board of the Federal Reserve system and the last from 1978 to 1980 governor of the Commodity Exchange American Commodities Exchange.
