Raymond Suvigny

Raymond Suvigny ( born January 21, 1903 in Paris, † October 26, 1945 ) was a French weightlifter.

Career

Raymond began in Paris in 1919 with the weight lifting. By 1923, he became a top French weightlifter. He presented this year for his first French record, which in the course of his career also several world records should follow. 1923 and 1924 he was master of Paris, and in later years he has also been French champion. On April 18, 1926 took place in Mannheim between Germany and France, the first international match in the history of weight lifting instead. Raymond Suvigny latter taking the colors of France at featherweight. However, he was defeated Eugene Miihlberger in the four-way battle ( One Arm Snatch, beidarmigen Press, Snatch and jerk ) with 311 kg 320 kg. This battle and the following countries in Paris in 1927 were milestones in the development of weight lifting, but was first used a barbell with weights mounted on ball bearings. From 1925 to 1927 no international championships were held.

In 1928, he reached 280 kg a French record in the Olympic triathlon, but could not start in Amsterdam because of an injury. He had, however, taken in Paris at the Olympic Games in 1924 and again in 1932 started in Los Angeles. This start was his greatest triumph, for he was Olympic champion in the featherweight ( up to 60 kg body weight) with the then world record weight of 287.5 kg. After Los Angeles Raymond Suvigny ended his career. He already died in 1945, barely 42 years old.
