Rødven Stave Church

The Stave Church Rødven is a Norwegian stave church in Rauma in Møre og Romsdal. The church now belongs to the ancient association Fortidsminneforeningen.

History

The time of origin can be dated to about 1200, the church was first mentioned in documents in 1589. Around the year 1600, the originally simple long church was heavily remodeled with a rectangular nave. It replaced the original choir in rod construction by a chorus in block design and removed the portico of flanking the church. Also recent are the roof, including the roof of the rider and the outer casing. Is documented in 1689, a storm that severely damaged the church and the tower.

Architecture and interiors

A special feature are diagonal supports as in the stave church Kvernes. Since when they are attached, is not known. The church has a north and a south porch, the latter consists of interlaced half-columns with Archivolte and foliate carvings. The interior of the church was painted in the 17th and 18th centuries. The church has a life-size Gothic crucifix from the second half of the 13th century, which probably originally from the opening chorus (Arch of Triumph ) comes and has since been called the cross of triumph.
