Real Time Kinematic

Real-time kinematic (English Real Time Kinematic, RTK) refers to a method for the precise determination of position coordinates using methods of satellite navigation. It works with simultaneous measurements to GPS or other GNSS satellites of a Global Navigation Satellite System, some with dual-frequency receivers.

RTK is a differential process, which evaluates the phase of the carrier signal. The precise locations such as the Differential Global Positioning System; determined relative to reference stations with fixed coordinates ( DGPS generalized DGPS ). DGPS methods achieve a spatial resolution in the meter or submeter. RTK is more accurate for those factor that the carrier frequency is higher than the data rate. However, the exact phase assignment is unsafe, causes an ambiguity to the multiple of a phase length. For example, one obtains in GNSS every 20 cm, the same position values , but these high-precision better than 1 mm.
