Realmonte

Monte Real is a municipality of the province of Agrigento in the Italian region Sicily.

Location and data

Monte Real is located 13 kilometers west of Agrigento. Here live 4444 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012), who mainly work in agriculture. In addition, in the municipality of concrete is produced. Due to its location by the sea offers Real Monte that some jobs in the tourism sector.

The neighboring municipalities are Agrigento Porto Empedocle and Siculiana.

History

The founding of the church is unknown, but is probably in the second half of the 17th century.

Attractions

The parish church is dedicated to San Domenico. The excavation area Villa Durrueli is on the road to Porto Empedocle, here are some rooms and a part of the floor have been preserved. Because of the beaches as Rosselo Lido, Punta Grande and Giallonardo the place is visited by tourists. There is also an underground salt cave.
