Realph Freed

Ralph Freed ( born May 1, 1907 in Vancouver, † February 13, 1973 in Los Angeles ) was an American lyricist, songwriter and television producer.

Life and work

Freed attended Hollywood High School. He began his career as a contract writer for the studios Paramount, Universal and MGM. From 1931 member of ASCAP, he worked in the years that followed, inter alia, with Sammy Fain, Frederick Hollander, Jimmy McHugh and Harry Barris. With Burton Lane Freed wrote the song How About You? , The Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney sang in the musical Babes on Broadway. The song was nominated for Best Song Academy Award in the category. From 1954 he worked primarily as a producer of films and television shows.

Ralph Freed was the brother of Ruth, Walter and Arthur Freed.
