Rear-engine Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes -Benz 170 H ( 1936)

The Mercedes -Benz W 28, called Mercedes -Benz 170 H, is a mid-size car with a rear engine, the Daimler- Benz AG in 1936 170 V brought out in parallel to the model as a successor to the Model 130. It has the same engine as the 170 V, a side-valve four-cylinder in-line engine with 1697 cc displacement, the (28 kW) 38 hp at 3400 rpm.

The car was much more expensive than the 170 V ( two-door sedan 170 V - 3750 RM 170 H - 4350 RM) and had less trunk, a louder engine noise and a poorer driving behavior - although better than that of the 130 - to offer. He was, however, equipped comfortable and therefore was considered the " finer " car that was bought but significantly less than the 170 V. In addition to the saloon there was a convertible sedan. In 1939, the series was discontinued due to the war and due to low demand without successors.

Since these cars were not very common in contrast to the sister model with a front engine and also not suitable for the cultivation of a wood gasification plant, they were not drafted into the Wehrmacht. Therefore, above average number of vehicles survived in private hands the war intact, but were depleted in the early postwar years. Today, the formerly most produced Mercedes- rear-engine car is among the rarest and most sought after Mercedes -Benz models.
