Rebecca Johnston

Rebecca Johnston (* September 24 1989 in Sudbury, Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who belongs to the Canadian women's national team since 2012 and plays for the Toronto Furies in the Canadian Women's Hockey League. Previously, she studied at Cornell University, for which she took up next to the sport of ice hockey even in athletics competitions. She is the niece of Mike Johnston.

Career

2007 participated Johnston and their subsequent teammate Catherine White for the province of Ontario at the Canada Winter Games. In the final against Manitoba both Johnston and White scored a goal and two assists each, while the team Ontario won the game 6-3 and the tournament undefeated.

In the same year Johnston began studying agriculture and environmental sciences at Cornell University and has performed since then for their hockey team, the Big Red in the ECAC Hockey. her older sister Sarah and her brother Jacob also play for the Big Red after her first season, she was voted into the All-Star team in the league and at the same time honored as Rookie of the Year. During the 2008 /09 Johnston reached by mid-February 2009, the brand of 37 scorer points, setting a record of Cornell University a, which had been erected in the 1991/92 season by Kim Ratushny.

Internationally

Johnston began her international career in the U22 national team, with whom she won two gold medals at the U22 Air Canada Cup. In 2008 she debuted in the national team of women and participated in the World Cup 2008. She won the silver medal with the national team.

In 2009 she participated in the MLP Nations Cup in Ravensburg part and won another silver medal. This success contributed Johnston at three goals and four assists, where they scored a hat trick in the game against Russia. They also took part in the 4 Nations Cup 2009. In 2010 she won with the national team the gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

2011 and 2013 they won with Team Canada in each case the silver medal at the Women's World Cup as they won the gold medal at the World Championships in 2012. 2014 she added her medal collection adds a further gold medal when they defeated with the national team in the Olympic final, the United States 3-2.
