Rebus

A picture puzzle, even the or Rebus (Latin rebus by things ') called, is a largely consisting of drawings riddle: A series of images and characters, the text of one or result from concatenation and abstraction, several new concepts associated with the images are in no way connected. Here is the exchange, the elimination or addition of individual letters may be disposed of.

Furthermore, there are picture puzzles, in which the task is to find differences between the two at first glance similar looking images.

Historical

From images and signs existing Rebusfolgen were already known in the 15th century and enjoyed, for example in the form of illustrated satirical poems nobility and layers formed. Masterfully executed, the published 1522 rebuses, combined with northern French dialect written in verses that Illuminés Rébus de Picardie.

Later published images puzzles in illustrated papers and magazines. Often, a prize was awarded for the solution, and entrants of correct answers mentioned by name.

Variant

A similar kind of puzzles that are often linked to a picture puzzle represents letters and other characters in a spatial relationship, the position designation is part of the solution. A relatively well-known example is
