The center

Recherswil is a municipality in the district water office of the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland.

Geography

Recherswil is located on 458 m above sea level. M., 7 km southeast of Canton main town of Solothurn (air line). The village is located in the flood plain between the river Emme in the west and the Ösch in the east, in the southern Solothurn Plateau.

The area of ​​3.4 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the groundwater- rich gravel plain in the central water office. The area is very little in relief. It extends east across the canalised stream of Ösch up onto the adjacent ground moraine, which was formed by glacial Rhône glacier. In Jäggenenwald below Hersiwil is 475 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Recherswil. To the south of the municipality floor extends into the undergrowth, to the northwest via the A1 motorway to the meadows of Gerkmatten. From the municipality surface 1997 20 % came from settlements, 24 % of forest and woody plants and 56% to agriculture.

Population

With 1730 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Recherswil belongs to the medium-sized municipalities in the canton of Solothurn. Of the residents 95.7 % are German, 2.1 % Italian-speaking and 0.6 % speak Serbo-Croatian (as of 2000). The population of Recherswil amounted in 1850 to 404 residents in 1900 to 864 inhabitants. During the first half of the 20th century, the population fluctuated in the range between 800 and 900 inhabitants. Since 1950 (989 inhabitants) a significant population growth was recorded again.

Economy

Recherswil was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming and fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In Recherswil various small and medium sized companies in the sectors construction and transport business, computer science, engineering, telecommunications, and precision engineering workshops and a printer are represented thanks to the good accessibility. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions of Solothurn and Bern.

Traffic

The community is conveniently moderately well developed. It is located on a link road of war Stetten Koppigen. The nearest links to the A1 ( Bern- Zurich ), which was passed through the municipality and opened in 1965, is located around 2 km from the town center. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1248 under the name Reicherswile. Later, the names Richirswile ( 1278 ) published, Richerswile ( 1324 ), Richerzwile ( 1367 ) and Richardswil ( 1376 ); only since the 17th century, the name Recherswil is handed down. The name goes back to the Old High German personal name Richher and means in the courts of the Richher.

Since the Middle Ages Recherswil was under the rule hold, came up with this in 1466 in the town of Solothurn and the Bailiwick of war Stetten was assigned. Was not until the 1665 Treaty Wyniger on the high justice of Bern Solothurn. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ) Recherswil belonged during the Helvetic Republic to the district Biberist and from 1803 to the district Kriegstetten, which was officially renamed in 1988 in the district water office.

As a result of industrialization in the nearby communities Gerlafingen and gave Biberist from about 1880 more and more farmers on agriculture and began in the factories of the region to work.
