Rechtenstein is a municipality in the Alb -Donau-Kreis in Baden- Württemberg.

Geography

Geographical location

Rechtenstein lies on the Danube between Riedlingen and Munderkingen.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the east by Lauterach, to the south and the east and north Obermarchtal to Emeringen.

History

The right stone castle was first mentioned in 1331 as the seat of the family of Stain, as Berthold inhabited the castle from the Stain and At length the nickname of the right stone to distinguish it from other Stainschen lines. The Family Stain itself is saved for the first time 922 mentioned ( in previous responses is uncertain whether this family is really meant ). On August 12, 1410 Wolf sold by Stain a part of the town, who had now formed around the castle, to Württemberg. 1557 acquires from Bernhard Stain all shares in castle and village back, so that the whole place is family owned again.

1739 died the legal Steiner line of the family of the Stain. 1806, it fell definitively to Württemberg. 1817, the castle was demolished with the exception of the castle tower.

Religions

Rechtenstein remained Roman Catholic after the Reformation. The Baroque parish church of St. George was ordained in 1744.

The coat of arms was approved on August 3, 1957 by the Home Office.

In the thirties of the last century, the church took a coat of arms on their official seal, containing the a German cross of the Order issued gevierten sign of the barons and counts of Stain on the right stone. Rechtenstein is located on the Donautalbahn from Donaueschingen to Ulm.
