Record Store Day

The Record Store Day (short: RSD) is the international day of independent record stores and will be held in April since 2007 every third Saturday.

The origins of the RSD are in the U.S., where store owners and employees like Eric Levin, Michael Kurtz, Carrie Colliton, Amy Dorfman, Don Van Cleave and Brian Poehner organized the first event. Meanwhile, attended by more than 700 U.S. stores, there are about 2,000 dealers worldwide. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland there are about 180 record stores, according to the coordinators. Excluded from the event are large chains and online retailers.

The concept behind the RSD is that buyers will re-learn to appreciate more advice and the atmosphere of the dealer. The focus is on vinyl, which still stands at world music fans in high demand. To reinforce this trend and to preserve the independent stores from extinction, each year exclusive records were released, which are often strictly limited and therefore can only be acquired on this day at the registered shops. This can be both new releases such as to re-releases (so-called reissues ). Plates, which are not sold, then end up in the trade.

In recent years, the RSD was, which is considered the world 's largest music event, supported by artists such as Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Iggy Pop and Jack White.

In 2013, the RSD took place on April 20.
