Recorder (judge)

The recorder was a title in the English legal system.

The recorder was a municipal judge, who was commissioned in almost all cities with their own Court of Quarter Sessions with the case law. Individual cities also had civil courts with locally limited jurisdiction, where the recorder was in the chair. Only barristers were appointed recorder.
