The Dunenkopfpapagei ( Pionus sordidus ), a real Neuweltpapagei belongs to the genus Rotsteißpapageien.

Dissemination

The distribution area of Dunenkopfpapageis ranges from northern Venezuela on West Columbia by Ecuador and northern Peru to northern Bolivia. Here he lives only at altitudes of 500 and 1500 meters. All subspecies of Dunenkopfpapageis inhabit tropical and subtropical forests and forest edges.

Features

The Dunenkopfpapagei reached a size of 28 cm. The head feathers are olive green, the feathers on the crown are lined in dark blue. The feathers on the cheeks are olive with blue feather tips, the throat and the collar are blue. The feathers on the breast are pale yellow -olive with a purple pink approach. The plumage on the belly is dull olive. The under tail cover is red and the top is dull olive green, each feather is brown -rimmed. The coverts of the primaries and flight feathers are green with brown interior green flags. The lower wing cover and the underside of the flight feathers are green. The tail feathers are dark green, outer feathers are edged blue on the outer webs and towards the root rot. The feet of the parrots are dark brown. The iris is yellow-brown.

The young birds see the adult birds similar, but the feathers on the head, throat and breast are pale green. In addition, the boys do not even have the blue tint of the adult birds on the head region. The under tail cover is yellowish green or deep red.

Way of life

The Dunenkopfpapagei lives outside the breeding season in flocks and family groups of 30 to 100 copies. They go together in search of food. The rainy season determines the breeding period of the parrots. The species that inhabit the south of the range, so start in October with de Brut. Population
