Red Church (Brno)

The Red Church is a Protestant church in Brno in the Czech Republic. It was built in the north German neo-Gothic style.

History

The members of the superintendency AB Moravia and Silesia Brno Lutherans decided in the 1860s to build the new church. Proclaimed to the architectural competition won by Heinrich Ferstel. In 1863 the foundation stone was laid. The church was Christ Church named and inaugurated in 1867.

The church was from 1878 used only by the German Protestants in Brno, as the Czech Protestants had built their own church. By 1945, the Red Church was used by the German Evangelical Church. After the end of the Second World War, the church came to the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren and was renamed " Jan Amos Comenius - Church ", the popular name " Red Church ", however, remained.
