Red Cross Medal (Prussia)

The Red Cross Medal was instituted on October 1, 1898 by Kaiser Wilhelm II in three classes and could be awarded to any person who is at peace or at war great service to the sick or suffering people as well as for special achievements in the service of the German Red Cross had acquired.

Appearance

The first class is a red enamelled Geneva Cross and on the four cross arms and engage in a gilded crown is attached respectively.

The religious character of the second class is a silver medal, the III. Class of bronze and displays the Cross of First Class. The Cross of the second class is enameled red. In the cross angles from left to right, the letters WR ( William Rex ) above and AV ( Auguste Viktoria ) below. At the back in the left margin next to an oak branch and the inscription FVER VM MERITS THE CROSS Rothe.

Carrying method

The first class was a plug cross, II and III. Class supported on a ponceauroten band with black and white side stripes on the left chest.

Clips

To participate in military expeditions was the II and III. Class will be awarded with one of the following clips on the tape:

  • South Africa 1899/1900
  • East Asia 1900/ 01
  • Harbin 1904/ 05
  • South Africa 1904/ 06
  • Peking

The clasps are made of gilded bronze or brass.
