Red Lodge is a city in the U.S. state of Montana. The village with 2,177 inhabitants is located in Carbon County and is also the county seat ( county seat ).

Founded in 1884 Red Lodge was initially a way station for travelers until in the 1890s the nearby coal deposits were discovered and the place has undergone a rebirth. Miners came mainly from Europe and settled down, so that the city in 1911 had around 5000 inhabitants. In the 1920s, the decline of mining began in the area. The last still working mine was closed soon after an accident in 1943 in which 74 miners died.

Since 1936, Red Lodge is the Beartooth Highway and thus also the Yellowstone National Park. The place is now accessible to tourists.
