Subspecies cranchii

The Rotkehlfrankolin ( Francolinus afer) is a species of the genus of Frankoline from the family of pheasant -like ( Phasianidae ). There are seven subspecies.

Features

It is 25-38 cm long, with significant size differences between the subspecies. Its plumage is generally dark - brown on the top, the lower body black with gray and white stripes. The bill, which mostly naked skin of face and neck and legs are bright red.

Dissemination

Like most Frankoline he is only being distributed in Africa. He lives in Central Africa and along the east coast of Tanzania.

Way of life

The Rotkehlfrankolin is a vigilant kind and always seeks protection in high fouling. For food intake, he can venture into open areas such as farmland, if scrub or thicket in the vicinity. Its nest is a bare Erdmulde in tall grass or undergrowth, the female lays 3-9 eggs.

Subspecies

According to the IOC World Bird List seven subspecies are known. These are to:

  • F. a harterti Reichenow, 1909 occurs in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and the North West of Tanzania.
  • F. a cranchii ( Leach & Koenig, KD, 1818) is present in the south of the Democratic Republic of Congo, in central Angola and Zambia from the west via the central Tanzania in the western Kenya and Uganda.
  • F. a leucoparaeus (Fischer, GA & Reichenow, 1884) This subspecies is present in southeastern Kenya and northern Tanzania.
  • F. a melanogaster Neumann, 1898 This subspecies is found in eastern Tanzania on the north Mozambique and north- eastern Zambia.
  • F. afer a ( Statius Muller, 1776) nominate is located in the west of Angola and northwestern Namibia.
  • F. a swynnertoni Sclater, WL, 1921 This subspecies can find in the east Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
  • F. a castaneiventer Gunning & Roberts, 1911 Its distribution area extends across the south and east of South Africa.
