Red-nosed mouse

The Rotnasenmaus ( Wiedomys pyrrhorhinos ) - not to be confused with the Rotnasenratten - is a living in Brazil rodent species from the group of the New world.

Rotnasenmäuse reach a body length of 10 to 13 centimeters, her tail is 16 to 21 inches long. Their fur is colored white on the back gray-brown and the belly. The nose, the ears, the rings around the eyes as well as the outsides of the legs are colored red.

These rodents live in eastern Brazil, their range extends from Ceará to Rio Grande do Sul. They inhabit scrubland such as the Caatinga. It is great to climb and run at least partially an arboreal lifestyle. They are nocturnal, during the day they rest in nests, which assume either of birds or build yourself. These nests are shared, in a nest of 8 adult and 13 juveniles were found.

The food of these animals consists of seeds and insects.

The systematic position of the Rotnasenmäuse within the Sigmodontinae is isolated. It is more closely related to any kind and is therefore in a separate tribe, Wiedomyini led.
