Red River Parish, Louisiana
The Red River Parish (French: Paroisse de la Rivière- Rouge) is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. In the census in 2010 had the Parish 9091 inhabitants and a population density of 9 people per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Coushatta.
Geography
The Parish is located almost in the extreme northwest of Louisiana, in the West is about 50 km from Texas, located to the north about 80 miles from Arkansas and has an area of 1041 square kilometers, of which 33 square kilometers are water surface; largest river is the Red River. It is bordered by the following Parishes:
History
Red River Parish was formed in 1871 from parts of the Bienville Parish, Bossier Parish of, the Caddo Parish and Natchitoches Parish of. It was named after the river on which the county is located.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Red River Parish, 9,622 people in 3,414 households and 2,526 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 57.87 percent White, 40.91 percent Black or African American, 0.28 percent Native American, 0.09 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.22 percent from other races groups; 0.61 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.01 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 3,414 households out of which 35.7 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 51.5 percent were married couples living together, 18.6 percent were single mothers, 26.0 percent were non-families, 23.1 percent of all households and 11.5 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.23 persons.
In relation to the parish the population was spread out 30.1 percent of residents under the age of 18, 9.3 percent between 18 and 24 years, 24.8 percent between 25 and 44 years, 21.5 percent between 45 and 64 years and 14.4 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 90.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.4 males.
The median income for a household was $ 23,153, and the median income for a family was $ 27,870. Males have a median income of $ 27,132, women $ 17,760. The per capita income was $ 12,119. 26.0 percent of families 29.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 40.1 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 18.9 percent of those 65 years.
