Redang Island

Pulai Redang is a Malaysian island in the South China Sea. It lies about 25 km off the east coast of the Malay Peninsula and about 50 km northwest of the city of Kuala Terengganu at 5 ° 47 'north latitude and 103 ° east longitude.

The 25 km ² island is heavily developed with 17 hotels and a popular destination for tourists as well as all-inclusive short breaks from Malaysia and Singapore. The only major town on the island is located on the southwest tip of the island. Here lay the larger speedboats from Kuala Terengganu (about 75 min), bring the tourists, food and other hotel supplies to the island. Even a small airstrip is located here, which is served during the holiday season daily from Kuala Lumpur with Berjaya Air. The majority of the resort facilities located in the east of the island, however. Since there is no fixed connection between the southwestern tip and the beaches to the east, these are with the hotel's speedboat from the city Merang served (about 45 min).

Redang has some very beautiful white sand beaches. The two main beaches of Teluk Kalong and Pasir Panjang are located in the East. In the northeast of the island Teluk Dalam Kecil the Bay with another very beautiful and wide sandy beach which merges also very flat in the open water. The adventurous can hike through a small jungle path between these two beaches. Among the eight surrounding small islands or Turtle Bay in the north of the island, which also includes as the main island to Pulau Redang National Park, is rewarding diving or snorkeling tours can take. The underwater world around the island is largely intact, there is a very dense and beautiful vegetation with over 60 different soft and hard coral species, as well as some large and small fish.
