Redekin is a district of the city Jerichow district Jerichower Land in Saxony- Anhalt ( Germany ).

Geography

The village Redekin located on the main road 107, four kilometers away from Jerichow.

History

1144 Redekin was first mentioned. The village belonged to the oldest estates of the monastery Jerichow. The Good Redekin was from 1327 to 1763 in the possession of the family von Randow, then from 1780 to 1945 in the family of Alvensleben. The old manor house burned down when the war ended in 1945.

Until December 31, 2009 Redekin was an independent municipality with the associated hamlets Neuredekin and Scharteucke. Last mayor Redekins was Detlef Lucht. January 1, 2010 Redekin was incorporated into the city Jerichow.

Redekin commissioned in 2008 the Magdeburg Kommunalheraldiker Jörg Mantzsch with the development of a coat of arms. The lower part of the coat of arms includes parts of the coat of arms of the von Redekin who were long -time resident in the village and have coined this. The bell refers to the legend of the sunken village Rehbogh, in whose church the bell once hung and was later found by a swineherd. The peculiarity of the bell is that it has no crown, but only a lug for suspension through which a bolt passes. The ears simply referring to the agricultural character, the Redekin from the beginning had up to the present.

The coat of arms was approved on 31 July 2008 by the county.

Attractions

The written in 1200 brick village church typical of ship and apse Romanesque frieze ornaments. On the south wall of the choir two sundials are inscribed. Inside, a bronze crucifix from the 12th century, the horseshoe gallery with rococo organ and the baptismal font is noteworthy with Romanesque cuppa. On the wall is a tombstone showing a Caspar von Randow († 1581) in armor; in the corners are his four ancestral coat of arms of Pomerania, of Hopkorff of Rindtorff and Eichstedt. The church is part of the Romantic Road.

In the park there is a sports and leisure center.
