Rederi AB Svea

Stockholms Rederi AB Svea ( Stockholms Rederi AB Sveabolaget, often only Svea or Rederi AB Svea called ) was a Swedish shipping company, which was founded in the 1870s. She has worked with a wide range of vessels for cargo and passenger transport, mainly with connections in the Baltic and the North Sea and was one of Sweden's largest shipping companies of its time. The Stockholms Rederi AB Svea was one of the founders of the Silja Line and led their ships under the name of Skandinavisk Linjetrafik, Scandinavian Ferry Lines, Linjebuss and Traveline.

The company had a Finnish subsidiary ( Oy Svea AB) and a subsidiary based in the Netherlands. 1981 was the Rederi AB Svea over in the Johnson Line, but remained as an independent brand.

History

Stockholms Rederi AB Svea was founded in the 1870s, the first ship was put into service in 1872. Most of the early ships were cargo steamer, which were used in the global tramp shipping. Following Sveabolaget started with the freight and passenger transport along the Swedish coast and in the Baltic Sea. 1918 began working with the Finland Steamship Company and Steamship Company Bore on the routes between Sweden and Finland. In the 1930s, followed by a strong expansion of Svea, the fleet increased to more than 100 ships.

After the Second World War, the Svea began with the operation of freight connections from Southern Sweden to Denmark and Germany under the banner of Traveline, Skandinavisk Linjetrafik and Linjebuss. The Johnson Line was in 1990 together with the Effoa and is since then under the name EffJohn.
