Redhill is a town in the Borough of Reigate and Banstead in Surrey in southern England. The city has about 25,000 inhabitants and is a southern suburb of London in the North Downs.

History

Redhill emerged in 1818 as a settlement on a newly constructed road; originally wore this settlement the name Warwick Town was founded in 1856 and renamed after the post office was moved from Red Hill Common here. The establishment of a railway station, on the London- Brighton in 1844 accelerated the development of the town. In Redhill North Downs Line to Guildford and also the line branches off of it to Tonbridge. 1855 was opened in Redhill, the Royal Earlswood Hospital, a psychiatric hospital in which, inter alia, Relatives of the royal family as patients lived. The hospital was closed in 1997.

Economy

Among the employers in the city include Boots, WH Smith, Iceland, Sainsbury's, the Central Bank of the PSA (Peugeot Citroen ) for Great Britain and Northern Ireland, curries, Barclays Bank, McDonalds and Lloyds TSB; the locations of the company Woolworths, Our Price and Lidl have now been closed. Redhill also has a shopping center with several floors ( The Belfry Shopping Centre ) and another shopping mall ( Redhill Indoor Market ).

Culture and Sport

Redhill has a theater, " Harlequin ", yet the city bears also popularly called " Dead Hill ", as there is apparently not very much to do in this small town by the way. Redhill is home of the football club FC Redhill.

Traffic

Redhill has a railway connection and can be reached via the A23 and A25 roads. The next motorways, the M23 and M25, carry around 2 km to the north and east past Redhill. About 2 km southeast of the town there is a small airfield.
